ADOPTED TO HIS FOREVER HOME!

Explorer, aka Dalcash Explorer, was born in Ireland on March 1, 2003, which makes him 5 years old. His dam is Dalcash Cathy and his sire is Cool Performance. While mostly Irish, his lineage includes the United Kingdom and Australia. All but the last three of his 38 races were in Ireland. Explorer retired June 2006 in Florida, and came to GALT with the Easter delivery from Harlingen in April 2007.

Word has it Explorer lives up to his name, and just look at that intense gaze! Now he's exploring the possibility of a forever home with a new family with whom he can continue his adventures in life. This boy has now completed his small-animal testing, and he is neither cat tolerant nor small dog tolerant, but he loves living with other Greyhounds.

See Greyhound-Data.com for Pedigree.

From Explorer's foster mom:

Explorer is quite smart, and he lives up to his name! He loves to explore every nook and cranny, inside the house, or out in the backyard. If a closet door is opened that he hasn't seen before, he has to check everything inside thoroughly before the door can be closed! He figured out how to use a doggie door after a day of watching his foster sisters and brother go in and out at their leisure. He LOVES his stuffie toys, but like all Greyhounds will only play with them for a short while. Then he has to take another nap. He likes to collect all the toys he can find, and keep them around his bed.

Explorer has a beautiful coat that is mostly black with a few white hairs sprinkled all across his ears, neck, back, and tail. Someone said it looks like stars on a dark night. His muzzle around his nose is white, as is his belly and chest, and the tips of all four of his feet. He also has white eyebrows, which gives him an adorable expression. He’s a very sturdy boy that weighs slightly over 80 pounds but carries his weight well.

Explorer

This boy loves his treats and loves to eat but he is such a gentlemen when it comes being fed.  While the other dogs are crowding around the kitchen counter while food is prepared, Explorer lays in his usual Sphinx position just outside the kitchen patiently waiting for you to serve him.

Explorer loves going for walks and gets excited enough that it can be a challenge to get his leash attached. Once he gets leashed and is outside a moment, he settles right down. He is so alert and interested in what is going on around him. He walks with his head erect and his ears perked, looking all around him as he goes. He walks with style, with a handsome and graceful stride.

Explorer is crate trained (although not his favorite place), but he now stays in the bedroom during the day with the other dogs. Explorer enters his crate willingly with a small treat, and settles right in for a nap until his people return. He even retreats to his crate occasionally for no reason at all.

Explorer

It is good to use the double-door system with Explorer. He is very interested and excited when a door is opened and will use his head to try to push through it. Explorer can be quite determined.

Explorer is strongly motivated to please. He responds immediately to praise, and minor reprimands are all it takes to get him to stop doing something he shouldn't (which is rare). He has been a quick learner, and once he realized that furniture was not just more floor that happened to have some elevation change, he has not tried to get on it.

He rides well in the car (it's that nap thing again).  He will lie down until you tell him it's time to get out.

He loves to be in the same room with his people and makes a greyt shadow. He sleeps on a soft doggie bed next to the bed at night but will sometimes move from bed to bed (he must find the softest one, of course). He loves to be petted, and seems to have no issues with his personal space. He cannot be made upset or nervous regardless of how intrusive we are about loving on him, and we have also discovered him curled up on the same bed as two other siblings for a nap (yes, three Greyhounds on one bed at once). This will probably make him a good choice for homes with children, though this hasn't been tested yet. He will make a great addition to a family with or without other Greyhounds.
