Easter in the Park

If you and
your family are looking for something fun to do this Easter, join the
GALT family and attend the annual rite of spring, the 19th annual Easter
in The Park at Lee Park, on Turtle Creek Boulevard, between Lemmon
Avenue and North Hall Street on Easter Sunday, April 11, from 11 a.m.
to 5 p.m. The event is such a big draw for the entire community that 8,000
to 12,000 people attend each year. Blankets, picnic baskets, music, family,
children and dogs are in order at this day of fun in the sun. Easter
in The Park benefits Turtle Creek Association, which has a primary
focus of enhancing, preserving and protecting the Turtle Creek corridor.
GALT will
have their tent in the usual spot on the south side of Turtle Creek .
We encourage all of GALTs family to come out, bring your greyhound(s),
family and enjoy the festivities to spread the word of greyhounds as companion
pets to all!
Bring a
covered dish, drink of choice, join in GALTs picnic and enjoy the
day. The festivities begin with the famous Pooch Parade, a
parade and costume contest with more than 150 dogs vying for special awards
and prizes. The entry fee for all dogs is $10.00. The award winners for
Small Dog, Large Dog, Owner/Pet Look-Alike
and Best Dressed get special prizes coveted each year. Registration
for the Pooch Parade begins at 11 a.m. at the Turtle Creek
Association tent on Turtle Creek Boulevard, between North Hall and Lemmon
Avenue. Cleo and Max Estrada have been contestants for the past 3 years,
and will certainly be there this year.
Jan Strimple
will serve as Grand Marshal of the Pooch Parade. The Master
of Ceremonies will be Mattie Roberts, host of the television program,
Mornings with Mattie on TXCN-TV and television celebrity Chris
Harrison, host of The Bachelorette. Celebrity Judges of the
Pooch Parade to date include Rob Brinkley, Home design editor,
PaperCity Magazine; Restaurateur Monica Greene; Realtor Joseph Gullotto;
Tracy Anchor Hayes, editor of Fashion!Dallas, The Dallas Morning News;
Radio host of KDGE-FM/102.1, Chris Jagger; Michael Jenkins, Executive
Director of The Dallas Summer Musicals; Dallas City Councilwoman Veletta
Forsythe Lill; Richard Baker, managing director, The Mansion on Turtle
Creek; model Jan Strimple
The Dallas
Symphony Orchestra will perform for an hour with a selection of popular
songs to fit everyones tastes at 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
