GALT is asking its friends and members to go an extra lap for adopted Greyhounds and their families.
Sometimes situations get tough for GALT Greyhounds and their adoptive families due to costly emergencies or other financial reverses. The Board of Directors would like to establish a fund for emergency expenses to help GALT adopters in need. GALT is asking you, as a Greyhound lover, to donate $10 toward establishing a fund for this purpose. Likewise, GALT is soliciting funding from established foundations to match what is raised internally.
This request by the Board members was proposed when GALT learned that its first certified assistance dog suffered a broken leg going up a flight of stairs. The Dallas Veterinary Surgery Center has joined the campaign and is providing the owner a discount due to the unique responsibilities this dog has in providing a quality of life for his disabled owner. Nonetheless, the owner's expenses are staggering, especially to someone on a fixed disability income.
Let's do all we can for him so he can continue his vital role in the life of his owner and establish a fund for the future. In addition to helping this person in need, the fund will provide help to others in need in the future. Today you may be in a position to help someone else. Tomorrow you may need the help. This is another way for Greyhound people to help other Greyhound people.
