Spicy

Spicy, aka Spice, is a beautiful, 2½-year-old red fawn female born May 22, 2006. Her sire is State Of The Art, and her dam is Sylvania. Spicy has 33 races to her credit starting December 9, 2007, at Valley Race Park in Harlingen, TX, and her last recorded race was August 3, 2008, at Wonderland in Maine.

Spicy unfortunately broke her right hock while training on October 3, 2008. She was brought the next day to Dallas where she was evaluated by Dr. Jeff Ellis of VCA Preston Park Animal Hospital. Spicy’s fracture was of the central tarsal bone and the right calcaneus. This was much more severe, as there were multiple pieces shattered within the calcaneus. Dr Ellis referred her to the Dallas Veterinary Surgery Center, and Dr. Brent Wilkins performed surgery on October 4th. A 12 hole, 2.7mm plate and screws were placed along the lateral side of the calcaneus and metatarsal area. Dr. Wilkins described this as a very challenging fracture. Spicy received bandage changes weekly for 8 weeks, and on December 3 the plate and several of the screws were removed. Spicy has been leash walked since that time, and her leg appears to be healed. It is not known at this time if Spicy is small animal or cat tolerant.
